Trip to Holland

Highlights

We are headed to the Netherlands to visit Wim’s family! We leave on March 11th and return 6 days later. It’s a long trip from Viveiro, even though we are only traveling in Europe and stay on the same time zone. It’s a 3-hour bus ride alone just to get to the airport in A Coruña, then we connect through Madrid before we reach Amsterdam. We arrive at the airport late that afternoon and Wim’s sister, who lives in New Zealand and has also come for a visit, picks us up there and together we drive 2 hours east to their parent’s house in Goor. The following day, everyone gathers for a lovely visit and dinner… Wim’s parents, his brother, and his sisters… one who is living in The Netherlands and the other who lives in New Zealand. It has been a long time since all four siblings have been together, and everyone is happy to spend time together.

Then the following day we travel back west to visit with Wim’s daughter and her family. How wonderful to see Wim’s first grandbaby! She’s so sweet and only 8 months old. A little too soon for sailing lessons, but we bring her a little striped shirt in Dione IV colors, just to get her started off right!

After a wonderful visit and lots of baby snuggles, we continue on to Wim’s other daughter and family (no grand baby yet, but a grand kitty!!!)

We go back to Wim’s parent’s house to drop off the car and then back to the airport for our flight the following day.

When we come back from A Coruña by bus, there’s a sudden stop: horses running loose on the highway!

After a lot of traveling and socializing, we’re happy to be back home on Dione IV and afloat again! Now it’s time to continue with some projects… the batteries for the scooters have arrived so Wim will install one of them in the little case and test it on the scooter. Stay tuned for Viveiro – part II for the details!
