Steel Welding

Steel Welding

Highlights – the overview

In the steel welding hall, convex shapes are added in front of the bow thruster holes for streamlining and improved hydrodynamics.

Captain’s Log (T-75) – the complete story

Today, another boat has moved out of the steel hall so, Dione IV can go in. They add convex shapes in front of the holes for the bow thruster to achieve a better hydrodynamic behavior.

The effect of the holes and of the convex shapes on the flow of water along the hull is somewhat unclear. There are conflicting opinions about all of it. Here at Multiship, they decide for an average size of the convex shapes. We don’t know anything about it and it will be unpredictable how it behaves so, we decided to let them decide.

Once we sail, we might see the flow of water or experience a drop down of speed… Well, since we don’t have a racing boat, speed isn’t a real issue. The effect of these holes compared to the 22 tons of water displacement and the 33 square meters underwater surface will probably be minimal.

Like going from a 20 inch 3-blade to a 24 inch 4-blade propellor when the engine was replaced. Some people thought that would really take the speed down because of its bigger surface. But it didn’t. At least, not noticeable.
