Plans

Cruising plans are always changing, like writing in the sand at low tide… so many variables impact what we do, where we go, and when. But here’s what we’re thinking, for now. As we actually turn plans into reality, we add maps with routes taken:

2034: New Zealand

2030: South Pacific

2027: Caribbean

2026: Atlantic Crossing or More Med?

later in 2025: Mediterranean

Summer 2025: Portugal

Spring 2025: The Rias, ES

Jan 2025: Galicia Province, ES

Dec 2024: Puerto de Cudillero, ES

Nov 2024: Ribadesella and Gijon, ES

From San Vicente de la Baquera we sail on to Ribadesella, on to Gijon for a month while we do projects and travel, and then on to Puerto de Cudillera, where we will spend another month and the holidays!

Oct 2024: San Vicente de la Baquera, ES

We work our way along the northern coast of Spain from Hondarribia to San Sebastian, Motrico, and Bilbao in the Basque province. And then on to Santander, San Vicente de la Barquera (currently), and points west.

Oct 2024: Hondaribbia,ES

With a good weather window, we sailed just over two nights (and days) to arrive at the border of France and Spain. From here, we start making our way west along the Basque coast on the south of the Bay of Biscay.

Sep 2024: South Brittany Coast

Most sail directly across the Bay of Biscay, but we’re planning to sail along the coast and explore!

Sep 2024: Brest

We finally make it around the cape and arrive in Brest after traveling along the north Brittany coast. We had to backtrack to the marina in Roscoff due to weather, then made our way west again.

Aug 2024: River Le Trieux and Port Blanc

Aug 2024: Saint Malo, France

We sail from Illes Chausey down to the northern Brittany coast and spend a few days at the marina in Saint Malo while we make a road trip to Portugal for Sher’s residency appointment.

Aug 2024: Jersey, UK and Illes Chausey, France

We sail around the cape and head for Jersey. We stay one night and continue toward Illes Chausey (inset on map), but have some engine voltage problems and return to Jersey to sort that out.

Aug 2024: Normandy Coast, France

We continue southwest along the coast past Belgium and on to Cherbourg, France. With strong currents and light winds, the 280nm trip was 3 days and 3 nights. One night in the marina in Cherbourg was enough, and we move on to Hable, a small anchorage closer to the cape and wait for our weather window to the Channel Islands.

Jul 2024: The Hague, Netherlands

After the visit with Wim’s daughter and new grand baby, we retrace our route, north past Haarlem, then turn left/west toward open sea! We sail south to The Hague (port of Scheveningen) for a few days until the weather/wind is good to continue along the coast to France.

Jul 2024: Braassemermeer, Netherlands

A bridge is closed for a year due to major construction, so we can’t go through downtown Amsterdam as planned. We take an alternate canal route to visit Wim’s daughter and new grand baby.

Jul 2024: Amsterdam, Netherlands

We’re on our way… let the adventures begin! We leave the dock in Koudum on Jul 2nd and make our way to Amsterdam, where we’ll spend a week or two. We’ll navigate the canals and pass through the city center at night.

Jun 2024: Koudum, Netherlands

Finally, we’re back in the water and leaving the boatyard. It’s a day sail from Harlingen back to Koudum, where we’ll be until we’re ready to head out on our adventures!

Apr – May 2024: Harlingen, Netherlands

The starting point for our adventures is Harlingen, Netherlands… more specifically, the boatyard, where Dione IV will have a bow thruster installed and routine maintenance done. Then, “hello world, here we come!”
