A Coruña

Highlights – the overview

Our final stop before heading out of the Ria’s of A Coruña is to the city of A Coruña itself. We join our cruising friends on Bird Song again and stay at the Real Club Nautico marina.

Right next to the City Marina in A Coruña there’s the cruise terminal. Almost everyday there’s a new cruise ship. They arrive in the night, the passengers visit A Coruña during the day, and they depart in the early evening. When they blow their huge horn 3 times (meaning departure), Sher goes outside and starts waving, but nobody is waving back, but still she doesn’t give up. 🙂

When Sher’s not waving at departing cruise ships, we take a walk in town…

We also take several scooter rides. First, along the northern and western coast of A Coruña, along the shore, which was very scenic. Next, we go along the river, but it is very industrial and not so nice.

There are scooter and bike paths all around the city, which makes our outings nicer and safer!

We are ready to move on and leave the marina in the early morning at sunrise (0800h) for a 50 sea miles downwind sailing trip to Muxia. Our new dinghy will arrive at the marina there tomorrow!

They arrive in the night, the passengers visit A Coruña during the day, and they depart in the early evening. But, although there are many people on the upper deck and on the balconies, nobody’s waving back… 🙁

We have a walk in the city. The old part of the city is nice.

In the afternoon, thunderstorm passes.

May 4.

A scooter ride along the northern and western coast of A Coruña.

There are scooter and bike paths all over the city. Great!

The views are gorgeous!

In the evening, Sher waves to another departing cruise ship. Again, hundreds of people on deck but nobody waves back 😩 Even the captain doesn’t come out of his wheelhouse to wave 😂

Another scooter ride. We decide to go along the river but the area is very industrial… a bit disappointing. On our way back we visit a big hardware store, Bricomat, to buy some stainless steel cable for our SSB Antenna. The galvanized one has gone very rusty.

May 7.

We have seen the city. It’s nice but not the most beautiful city we’ve visited in Spain. The location is special: actually A Coruña is a peninsula. Surrounded by the ocean. It has many kilometers of nice boulevards.

May 8.

We leave the marina in the early morning at sunrise (0800h) for a 50 sea miles downwind sailing trip to Muxia. Our new dinghy will arrive there tomorrow!
